My First Wreath Experiment

So, I made a wreath.  Weird.  This isn't the type of thing I usually do.  I've never made a wreath before, so I'm not sure what came over me.  Often times, the wreaths I see are cheesy and not really my thing... ...but for some reason I went to the craft store looking for supplies to make some sort of  a Thanksgiving Wreath.  I came home with a grape vine wreath, jute fabric, a silk flower, berries, and feathers. I struggled because I didn't really like what I was coming up with as I began arranging the wreath: Ultimately, this is what I ended up with:   I am actually pretty happy with it.  Do you think it could also be a Christmas Wreath?  I didn't get it put on my door until about a week ago, so I'd like to leave it up through December.  What do you think?

Recipes: Great FOOD + a Beautiful ROOM

What are two things we all love??  Tasty FOOD and pretty ROOMS.  Well, because of this, I decided to start  this new series.  For the 'food' part, I have invited the talented Cassie , a food blogger from CassieCraves to share one of her awesome, melt-in-your-mouth recipes.  After wards, I will come in for the 'room' part- I'll share a 'recipe' for a room design where I could picture myself enjoying the yummy meal.  Butternut Squash Macaroni & Cheese ...an inviting, seasonal version of the classic comfort food. 1 butternut squash 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened 2 cups milk 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Salt and pepper to taste 1 pound macaroni pasta 2 tablespoons butter 1 cup plain breadcrumbs 1/4 cup parmesan cheese 1/2 teaspoon ground sage 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves 1.         Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut butternut squash in half lengthwise, remove seeds, and place face-down in a large roast

Guest Post: Colorful Tables

Hi, I'm Susi, from the Arcadian Lighting blog, a wonderful place to find inspiration for lighting fixtures and decorating. I'm very lucky that I get to visit amazing blogs like ROOMS as a guest blogger. My guest post today is all about colorful tables that make me, and hopefully you, happy. Tables are a great way to add pops of color to a space, whether it be a kitchen, living room or bedroom. Here are eight colorful tables that are cheerful and happy. Enjoy! A colorful table in an entry or foyer is a happy way to welcome people into your home. Bright red has a big wow feeling against a blue and white wallpaper along with this gold wall lamp ! A pretty yellow table is unexpected in a dining room. This colorful table adds a bit of cheer to this coastal style room. For a room full of color or to add a pop of color, a colorful painted table is an easy choice. Love the turquoise color in this colorful living room. A dark color, like indigo or navy, feels sophisticated

A Few DIY Projects

Lately, I feel like I should start each post with - 'Sorry I haven't been around much...' Hmm, anyway.. Here are a few of my favorite diy projects I have collected on pinterest over the last little bit.  I have not done any of them...I like to THINK about doing them, and maybe one day it will happen! link to tutorial Poster paper cut in circles, spray painted, layered into a fishscale pattern on fiberboard, trimmed out, and hung in a dining room.   source link to tutorial link to tutorial Someone should really try these out...and send them to me :) I wish :)

Eco Houndstooth Throw $105 thefoundary.com cashmere throw CocoCozy Throws $322 - a pretty penny, but sooo many cute designs & colors!

Project Peek - Boy's Room

Remember this room design I showed you awhile back? As I mentioned, I had to make a few changes to the design.  I found out there was a blue and red race car toddler bed that would be used when 'baby boy' got to that stage.  So instead of using orange, I switched to red.  This way the red/blue toddler bed would match the room when the time came to use it.  Also, I received further clarification on the doing a race car theme - It needed to be Formula 1 race cars.   This is what I came up with... The family that I am doing this design for lives in Utah where I used to live, because of modern technology (thank you)  I am still able to help them.   Here is a sampling of the drawings I emailed to them to illustrate the design: If you are interested in my design service, email me :)

Rug Love

Before moving out to S. Carolina I worked as a designer/sales at a modern & contemporary furniture store in Salt Lake City.  My favorite rug line that we carried was Surya . Today, I was looking though their online Fall 2011 Catalog .  Here are a few of my favorite rugs that looked like new designs added (among many) that I hadn't seen before. link link link  link link link They have pillows too: link link link Also on a completely different, non-design related subject, I rented this book from the library today... Hilarious so far.  I love Ellen.
