Painting

I'll admit my posts have been a little far and few in between...sorry for that!  But what can I say, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my blogging motivation is at a low! We've been trying to get this room painted for my toddler to move into.  The wall color was a dark and dreary teal color.  It doesn't look too bad in the photo, but it made the room dark and cold-feeling. I wanted to lighten up the space, so I chose to go with yellow.  As you can probably tell, we are NOT done painting!  It's going to take a few coats of paint to cover up the teal paint. We have been using  the  Shur-Line Edge Like a Pro  so that we don't have to tape the ceiling, floor boards, windows, and doors off.  We're not entirely pleased with this product, we have still managed to get yellow paint on the white trim in places. In addition, it's kind of hard to get a straight line of paint right up against the textured ceiling (it's an older home) with the edge...

Toile: Love It or Hate It?

Toile...are you a fan?? source source via via I can appreciate Toile.  I like how Toile scenes tell a story, and I have seen a lot of really intriguing patterns/color combinations lately.  Generally though, it's too much on the traditional side for my personal tastes. In my own home, I probably wouldn't chose to do a whole room in Toile, but could easily handle a few pillows, a chair, or have it framed as shown in one of the above photos.  So, what about you?  Love it, or hate it???

Picture Frame Makeovers

Back in October, we had our family pictures taken. I have been meaning to frame and display them for the longest time!  Took me long enough, huh??  I'm limited on local home decor stores in the town/small city that I live in, so I have to use my resources to the best of my abilities and be a little creative! I wanted a mat that was a color instead of white to create some contrast against my white rental home walls.  So, I went to Hobby Lobby and had a custom navy mat cut.  Quick and pretty inexpensive. I loved the style & texture of these smaller frames, but not really the finish.  To remedy this, I simply spray painted them. The arrangement of pictures is on a skinny wall in between the front door and large window, so I chose to arrange them vertically.  Here is the finished product: It's nice to finally have some current family pictures up to enjoy!

Symmetrical vs. Asymmetrical Balance

Which do you prefer symmetrical or asymmetrical design? Balance is the even distribution of weight in a space.  Balance is essential for a well-designed space.  Two ways to achieve balance is through a symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangement. In a symmetrical arrangement one side of the room mirrors the other side.  The same furnishings are used on  each  side of the room. via via via Asymmetrical arrangements are often times a little trickier to achieve.  The furnishings on each side of the room are different but the visual weight is still distributed evenly. How cool is  this asymmetrical design? elle decor elle decor Which type of arrangement are you most drawn to? There is one other way to achieve balance in a room  through radial balance .  I'll leave that for another post:) Do you need help designing your home?  Visit my website to see th...

32 Weeks

I figured it was about time to share something with all of you... I am 32 weeks pregnant!   I meant to post about it a long time ago, but I kept putting it off and now here I am almost at the end of my pregnancy! This pregnancy has actually been a lot easier than my first one.  I haven't been quite as sick and believe it or not, my belly hasn't gotten quite as big! Here are few shots of my prego belly.  They were taken this past week while my parents were visiting. My 19 mos. old daughter, my dad, and me at the zoo in Columbia, SC Anyway, just thought some of you might be interested in knowing!

It's already Wednesday...Whoa!
