My Skirted Sofa

Yesterday, on the Nate Berkus Show, they showed a room makeover where the skirt was removed from a sofa to reveal the legs underneath.  It looked pretty good.  'What a great idea!" I thought to myself,  "I have a skirted sofa not my style that I could try the idea out on!"

Here is my sofa as it currently stands:
Ya...NOT so cute, right???
There are 4 things I do not love about this sofa:
A - The skirt
B - The rolled arms
C - The puffy back cushions
D - The upholstery color

There are two good things about this sofa:
A - It's comfortable
B - Because of it, we have somewhere to sit!

On good ole' Photoshop I did a mock up of what it would like if I removed the skirt...

...Not as great as I had hoped.  It's possibly okay (maybe) from the front,  but from the sides the beefy sofa just looks to heavy for those weak-looking, ugly legs.

This idea may work for you if you have nice wooden legs to reveal, but if your sofa is like mine, it might be better just to leave well-enough alone, and work with what you have!

Here is my initial plan. I have yet to dig into fabrics, coordinating pieces, etc, etc:

*Place an ottoman with sleek legs in front of the sofa to off-set the sofa's skirt.

*Recover existed pillows with colorful graphic throw pillows.

Do you have a skirted sofa that needs some help?

  1. Wow, that is a seriously nice improvement. Amazing how the pillows and ottoman brought it all to life.

  2. Our sofa is very similar to yours and I'm really itching to get rid of ours. Our sofa does not have the skirt though. We do have some colorful pillows though to distract from the sofa for the time being. The pillows will definitely help that's for sure. Our sofa is comfy too but I'm ready for a new one. Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

My Favorite Way to Hide Toys in My Family Room

We were is desperate need of something to hide toys in our family room.  In addition, I really needed something to go along the back our loveseat.  Below, is basically the view you get when you walk into our home.  I didn't want people to walk in & the first thing they see is the bare back of our loveseat. One day, I was meandering around TJ Maxx & spotted this cute storage ottoman.  Right away, I knew it needed to come home with me! It has proved to be a fantastic purchase for us!  My kids can easily get toys in & out of it.  It is also a very convenient place to sit & put your shoes on before heading out the door.  In addition, it can easily be moved around to the main sitting area if extra seating is ever needed. You KNOW you have made a good purchase when your husband has said TWICE, "Melissa, buying that ottoman was a really good idea."  Need some other ideas on how to hide toys?   Cute baskets/bo...

Elegant Dining Room Makeover

I had the pleasure of helping a local client decorate their dining room.  The space was pretty plain and lacked personality.  I knew it had possibilities with those tall ceilings and beautiful arched windows. (Before) My client was very budget conscientious so I did not go over board on decor.  I was very thoughtful of the decor I suggested and made sure the items we put in the space really made a 'wow' statement. This is the mood board I put together for my client to show the decor that I thought would look gorgeous in the space. My clients' liked everything, with exception of the chandelier.  They were not in love with the one I selected and it was a little too expensive.  As a replacement, I found this chandelier that I think was even more perfect for the space. So without further adieu, here are the pictures of the completed space! Would you like help making your home a place you love...
