Dressing Up a Mantle

Fireplace mantles are an instant focal point in a room and deserve to be dressed up.
Here are a few different ways to show them off:

Isn't this one great?
Forget the art, use wallpaper as a back drop, and place a variety of stunning accessories.

Okay, so this room is just all together beautiful. I love how the designer used a large mirror to add life to the space and then hung interesting art on the sides. I think there is even a cute tiny lamp on the mantle.

Go big or go home. Sometimes just a large piece of art is all you need on a mantle. Okay, so there is also a vase in the photo, but you get the point :)

This arrangement is interesting. I would have never chosen to place two round mirrors next to each other over a mantle. I can't decide if I like it...

Bold Painted Wood Floors

Yesterday, I watched a portion of the Nate Berkus Show. The segment I saw was about going bold in your home. He had a guest on his show who had painted their wood floors because they couldn't find area rugs in their preferred colors. Take a look:

Gorgeous, huh? Sometimes taking a chance in your home really pays off!

Wallpaper in a powder bathroom makes me happy- seriously.
Look at these photos - don't they make you just smile a little?

Their are so many drop-dead-gorgeous wallpapers these days. Occasionally, I suggest wallpaper to a client and sometimes they get a worried look on their face. I usually have reassure them that I am not talking about their grandma's wallpaper from the 50's!

The trellis pattern in very popular right now - but nonetheless, very beautiful...

I say, if you need an inexpensive way to dress up a blah bathroom, wallpaper is a great way to go. I promise (if done right) yow will feel happy every time you walk in :)

Stretching the Life of a Bouquet

Now that spring is here, fresh bouquets are the perfect finishing touch to any space. I always like to make bouquets last as long as I possibly can - flowers make any girl happy, right?!
Here are a few tips to help stretch the life of a bouquet.
Day 1: Only buy flowers at the market if you plan on rushing home right after. Be sure to use a clean vase, any lurking mold will only speed up the decaying process. Cut stems at an angle, remove any leaves below the water line, and have your vase ready with fresh clean water. Remember to change the water daily, & trim the stems every few days. Finally, keep out of direct heat & sunlight.

Day 3: Remove any dried leaves, and throw out any withered blossoms. Transfer bouquet to a new smaller vase appropriate for a smaller arrangement.

Day 5: As more flowers continue to die, gather the remaining healthy blossoms and transfer to an even small vase, such as a tiny round vase.

Day 7: For that sweet little last blossom, place in beautif…
