Painting

I'll admit my posts have been a little far and few in between...sorry for that!  But what can I say, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my blogging motivation is at a low! We've been trying to get this room painted for my toddler to move into.  The wall color was a dark and dreary teal color.  It doesn't look too bad in the photo, but it made the room dark and cold-feeling. I wanted to lighten up the space, so I chose to go with yellow.  As you can probably tell, we are NOT done painting!  It's going to take a few coats of paint to cover up the teal paint. We have been using  the  Shur-Line Edge Like a Pro  so that we don't have to tape the ceiling, floor boards, windows, and doors off.  We're not entirely pleased with this product, we have still managed to get yellow paint on the white trim in places. In addition, it's kind of hard to get a straight line of paint right up against the textured ceiling (it's an older home) with the edge...

Picture Frame Makeovers

Back in October, we had our family pictures taken. I have been meaning to frame and display them for the longest time!  Took me long enough, huh??  I'm limited on local home decor stores in the town/small city that I live in, so I have to use my resources to the best of my abilities and be a little creative! I wanted a mat that was a color instead of white to create some contrast against my white rental home walls.  So, I went to Hobby Lobby and had a custom navy mat cut.  Quick and pretty inexpensive. I loved the style & texture of these smaller frames, but not really the finish.  To remedy this, I simply spray painted them. The arrangement of pictures is on a skinny wall in between the front door and large window, so I chose to arrange them vertically.  Here is the finished product: It's nice to finally have some current family pictures up to enjoy!

Decorating Our Rental Home

Last week I showed you the color scheme I decided on for my master bedroom.  Well, I have some progress to share with you! First off, let me show you where we started.  Pretty blah, right?? Things improved a tad when I got new bedding at Christmas.   You may be thinking, 'Wait...it's a different room..."  Yes - we moved.   Also as a side note, you can see this room has some design challenges with that off-center window. The king-sized shams really left something to be desired....  So, using the plain white shams as a pattern, I made new ones with a white and navy striped fabric.  The backs are solid navy with an opening to remove the pillows when needed. Next, I made a couple of 18" throw pillows with a down fill.  I purchased the fabrics at a local fabric store.   You may have noticed the lamps in the previous photos.  Guess where they are from?  Lowes!  Guess how much they cost?  $45!...

Pillow Make-Over

This past week I finally got around to recovering my pillows I told you about. As a reminder, here are the sad - sad before pillows.  The fringe on that back pillow makes me cringe! And here are the happy - happy after pillows! I really am quite pleased with how they turned out.  It's amazing how they spice up my sofa that I have to work with. This room needs a lot of work, later on I'll tell you more about and my plans:)
