The Basics of Styling a Coffee Table

Do you ever look in home magazines/online & see beautifully accessorized coffee tables &
 wish that you had the skills to accomplish that with your own table?  

Well, all you need are THREE items to create a beautifully styled coffee table. 
 I am keeping it BASIC here...take a look!



So my drawings may not be the best, but you get the point right??


1----A Floral/Branch Arrangement.  This element gives you height. Pick a container for your arrangement that has curves to offset the square & straight lines of  the books (mentioned below).  A hurricane with a large candle inside, or 3 candlesticks could also work, but personally I prefer something organic.  

2--- Three stacked books.  Pick three nice looking books from your home collection.  If you don't have any, a thrift store is a great place to find large, inexpensive books.  

3--- A small, intriguing item to place on top of books.  My drawing is suppose to portray coral. (What?  you couldn't tell that by my awesome drawing??)  This could be a small sculpture, candle, sphere, clock, etc. etc.    Make sure the item is a different shape from the books - so don't pick something square or rectangle.

(You can always add more items to your table -  don't feel limited. I'm just keeping this post as simple & basic as I can!)

Okay, that is it!  I swear, follow these guidelines and anyone that comes to your home will think you know what your are talking about when it comes to styling a coffee table.

    Love it! You know how much I love your how-to drawings. I feel like when it comes to wall decor, I feel more ambitious and the ideas come to me, but sadly when it comes to decorating table-spaces of any kind I get lost. Thank you so much for your easy diagrams and direction!

My Favorite Way to Hide Toys in My Family Room

We were is desperate need of something to hide toys in our family room.  In addition, I really needed something to go along the back our loveseat.  Below, is basically the view you get when you walk into our home.  I didn't want people to walk in & the first thing they see is the bare back of our loveseat. One day, I was meandering around TJ Maxx & spotted this cute storage ottoman.  Right away, I knew it needed to come home with me! It has proved to be a fantastic purchase for us!  My kids can easily get toys in & out of it.  It is also a very convenient place to sit & put your shoes on before heading out the door.  In addition, it can easily be moved around to the main sitting area if extra seating is ever needed. You KNOW you have made a good purchase when your husband has said TWICE, "Melissa, buying that ottoman was a really good idea."  Need some other ideas on how to hide toys?   Cute baskets/boxes , wall pockets (for books

Elegant Dining Room Makeover

I had the pleasure of helping a local client decorate their dining room.  The space was pretty plain and lacked personality.  I knew it had possibilities with those tall ceilings and beautiful arched windows. (Before) My client was very budget conscientious so I did not go over board on decor.  I was very thoughtful of the decor I suggested and made sure the items we put in the space really made a 'wow' statement. This is the mood board I put together for my client to show the decor that I thought would look gorgeous in the space. My clients' liked everything, with exception of the chandelier.  They were not in love with the one I selected and it was a little too expensive.  As a replacement, I found this chandelier that I think was even more perfect for the space.
