'UGLY' Show - & - Tell

AND today, I have invited Lindsay + Lindsay from Sadie + Stella to showcase a little of  'UGLY' in their homes. What you say?? Lindsay + Lindsay have something ugly in their homes?  I know - hard to believe, especially if you have visited their fabulous design blog.  The point is, we all have a little bit of ugly in our homes (if YOU don't, the rest of us are jealous!) that we can't stand and wish we could replace.  Sometimes it's just nice to see that we are all in the same boat trying to work with what we have!  Of course, this wouldn't be a design blog if we didn't also showcase how we would (or have) transformed the 'UGLY.'

We are Lindsay + Lindsay from Sadie + Stella and we could not be more thrilled to be sharing our ugliest pieces of furniture, with ROOMS readers. Since there are two of us, we have two pieces to share with you all. We hope you all can withstand the befores...





The beginning of this wingback chair could not be more sorry. The chair was in absolute despair. Including layers of fabric, stains...you name it! 
We could not be more pleased with the after! Lots of blood sweat and tears went into this DIY upholstery job. It was well worth the work! See the full transformation here.


This bookcase is a major cheapy that was purchased at Tarjae (Yes, it is French), many years ago. Although it does its job, the particle board leaves much to be desired. 



The solution you ask? Other than great and thoughtful styling, we are thinking O'verlays! These are a fairly inexpensive way to transform a dull piece into a drool worthy item. They make your furniture to appear to be one of a kind and of course, unique. We love! Cannot wait to show you the after.

    This is such a brilliant idea for a series...not only do I love seeing other people's homes, but I love that we get to know the little imperfections! Not that that bookshelf is near as fugly as the one in my house! (c:

    Love that chair transformation. I also am a huge fan of O'verlays. I'm just about to order some for my daughter's Ikea dresser.

My Favorite Way to Hide Toys in My Family Room

We were is desperate need of something to hide toys in our family room.  In addition, I really needed something to go along the back our loveseat.  Below, is basically the view you get when you walk into our home.  I didn't want people to walk in & the first thing they see is the bare back of our loveseat. One day, I was meandering around TJ Maxx & spotted this cute storage ottoman.  Right away, I knew it needed to come home with me! It has proved to be a fantastic purchase for us!  My kids can easily get toys in & out of it.  It is also a very convenient place to sit & put your shoes on before heading out the door.  In addition, it can easily be moved around to the main sitting area if extra seating is ever needed. You KNOW you have made a good purchase when your husband has said TWICE, "Melissa, buying that ottoman was a really good idea."  Need some other ideas on how to hide toys?   Cute baskets/bo...

Elegant Dining Room Makeover

I had the pleasure of helping a local client decorate their dining room.  The space was pretty plain and lacked personality.  I knew it had possibilities with those tall ceilings and beautiful arched windows. (Before) My client was very budget conscientious so I did not go over board on decor.  I was very thoughtful of the decor I suggested and made sure the items we put in the space really made a 'wow' statement. This is the mood board I put together for my client to show the decor that I thought would look gorgeous in the space. My clients' liked everything, with exception of the chandelier.  They were not in love with the one I selected and it was a little too expensive.  As a replacement, I found this chandelier that I think was even more perfect for the space.
