Four Simple Ways to Re-Do & Revamp Your Home Office

Uma Campbell is with us today, sharing a few tips on how to spice up your home office!
-----

Whether you use your home office to get work done, to pay your bills, to organize your thoughts and ideas or to plan activities for the family, you want it to be a space where you enjoy spending time. If your home office is dark and dingy, chances are good that you aren’t going to feel very inspired to complete the tasks that you need to complete. Heck, you may not even want to enter the space at all.

Make your home office a more inspiring space with some easy to do touch ups. Here are 4 simple ways that you can breathe new life into your office space, turning it into a room that inspires creativity and productivity.

1.        Re-Do the Walls: Something as simple as re-doing the walls can add new life to your home office. Add a fresh coat of paint or hang up some wallpaper and you will instantly give the room an entirely new look. If you don’t want to paint or wallpaper the entire space, you can create a focal wall. Hang wallpaper or add fresh paint to a single wall, such as the one behind your desk, to give the room an updated look.

2.       Reorganize: Organization is the key to successfully completing tasks, especially the tasks that you will likely be doing in your home office. If your office is cluttered, in a disarray and you can’t find anything, not only are you going to have trouble finding what you’re looking for, but you are also going to feel frenzied. Reorganizing the room can make it look neater, will make it easier to find what you need, and will help to make you more productive. Designate baskets and bins for specific items and display labels on them that clearly indicate what they hold. A filing cabinet organized with clearly labeled folders will allow you to store and easily access paperwork. A bookshelf will provide a space for the neat and tidy storage of books, magazines, craft projects and other supplies you might store in your office.

3.     Add a Water Feature: When you think of a home office, a water feature may be the last thing that you think of; however, a water feature really can do wonders for this room. The sight and sound of running water is extremely soothing and calming and can help reduce your stress levels. When your stress levels are down, your creativity is boosted.

4.     New Lighting: Not only does lighting allow you to see what you are doing, but it helps to set a mood. Try bringing in some new lighting to the space to give it a new look and to make you more productive. Task lighting is great for an office space. Consider installing pot lights in the ceiling, or hang up a light fixture that features several spot lights that can be pointed over key areas. A great desk lamp will illuminate your workspace and add style.

With these simple re-do ideas, you can create an office space that you’ll love spending time in and that incites creativity and productivity.

My Favorite Way to Hide Toys in My Family Room

We were is desperate need of something to hide toys in our family room.  In addition, I really needed something to go along the back our loveseat.  Below, is basically the view you get when you walk into our home.  I didn't want people to walk in & the first thing they see is the bare back of our loveseat. One day, I was meandering around TJ Maxx & spotted this cute storage ottoman.  Right away, I knew it needed to come home with me! It has proved to be a fantastic purchase for us!  My kids can easily get toys in & out of it.  It is also a very convenient place to sit & put your shoes on before heading out the door.  In addition, it can easily be moved around to the main sitting area if extra seating is ever needed. You KNOW you have made a good purchase when your husband has said TWICE, "Melissa, buying that ottoman was a really good idea."  Need some other ideas on how to hide toys?   Cute baskets/bo...
